MANITOUWADGE, ON – September 23, 2022, Manitouwadge High School (MNHS) participated in the Terry Fox Run with an event planned by the Grade 11 Civics class.  To encourage students, the grade that raised the most money earned a pizza party lunch.  The Civics students also presented the student body with a challenge thanks to the collaboration of a pair of brave teachers. The students were challenged to raise a minimum of $700 to be treated to watching teacher and coach Ted Lalonde get a pie in the face, or, if the students’ fundraising totalled $1000 or more, teacher and coach Wayne Pittman would join his colleague in receiving a pie in the face.  For the final fundraising incentive, the two students who raised the most money would have the honour of throwing the pies (watch all the fun in the video below!).

Extremely well-motivated, September 23rd, the MNHS’s fundraising totalled an amazing $1707.  Grade 12 students Ryleigh and Piper, worked as a team and raised $595 for first place while Grade 11 student  Chaeli raised 350.25 earning her second place.  Honourable mention goes to Emeraude (Gr.11), Olivia (Gr.10), and River (Gr.9), for bringing in over $100 each!

While the teachers volunteering to be hit by pies added a lot of fun, we acknowledge the need for cancer research and the valuable role this event plays in funding that research.  Manitouwadge High School is honoured to be able to help with this.
