NSSSAA Girls Soccer Final (VIDEO)
WAWA, ON – Videos below, recorded live courtesy Manitouwadge High School (MNHS), of the final girls’ varsity soccer game between Wawa’s Michipicoten High School and Manitouwadge High School’s Wolverines are in chronological order from earliest (bottom) to last (top). The Wolverines had won all their previous games May 25th Manitouwadge Vs. Marathon 3-1, Manitouwadge Vs. Wawa 3-0 and this morning (May 26th) Manitouwadge Vs. Chapleau 5-0 while Wawa had won 3 games loosing only to Manitouwadge in the aforementioned game yesterday (May 25th).
As you’ll see in the videos below the final game was intense, the Wolverines being short-handed with a team of only 14 players were exhausted and Wawa, while having a more robust team of 20 players still had to bring their all. At the game’s regular time end, neither team had scored in spite of numerous attempts as the goalies impressively keept them all out. The game went into overtime with 2, ten minute periods which also ended 0-0. Finally each team had 5 kicks, using one net the teams alternated as one player (a different girl for each kick) faced off against the opposing team’s goalie. In the end, Wawa claimed gold winning the 2022 Girls’ Varsity Soccer NSSSAA Banner having successfully made 2 goals out of their 5 kick attempts while Manitouwadge was proud to take home silver having had 1 successful goal out of their 5 kick attempts.
Congratulations to all the athletes who competed over the past two days from Chapleau, Marathon, Manitouwadge and Wawa on their sportsmanship and teamwork throughout! A special congratulations to the athletes from Michipicoten High and Manitouwadge High schools who played incredibly well throughout this game, which as seen below, was a true test of skill and endurance as well as many memorable moments on both sides!
Good luck to Michipicoten High School’s Girls’ Varsity Soccer team as they represent the North at OFSAA in Southern Ontario in June, GO VIKINGS!
