Traffic Stop Results in Impaired Driving & Drug Trafficking Charges
GERALDTON, ON – On February 02, 2022, members of the Greenstone Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a 911 call, reporting a possible impaired driver on Main Street in the Town of Geraldton. Police located the subject motor vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.
The traffic stop led to the arrest of the driver for impaired operation of a conveyance and drug offences. Police seized a quantity of methamphetamine and other items consistent with the trafficking of drugs. The drugs have an estimated street value of approximately $2,190.
Kalvin GODIN, 30 years-old of Geraldton, ON has been charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purposes of trafficking contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
- Operation of a conveyance while impaired contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
- Fail to comply with probation order contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code
- Driving while under suspension contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act
The investigation is ongoing and is being assisted by the Greenstone OPP Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU) and the OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB).
The accused made a brief court appearance in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay, Ontario by video on February 03, 2022 to answer to the charges and was remanded into custody.
