Extreme Cold Warning in effect for:

  • Geraldton – Longlac – Caramat
  • Manitouwadge – Hornepayne
  • Nakina – Aroland – Pagwa

A period of very cold wind chills is expected.

Hazard:

Minimum temperatures between minus 27 and minus 32 degrees Celsius.
Wind chill values between minus 40 and minus 45.

Tonight (Jan.4) and early Wednesday morning.

Watch for cold related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.

Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.

If it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.

Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.

Hazard:
Heavy snow. Total snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm.
Local blowing snow.

Tuesday, Jan 4, 2022 – until Wednesday afternoon.

A low pressure system is bringing snow to the region. Light snow will become heavy this evening. Wind gusts up to 60 km/h will further reduce visibility in local blowing snow.

If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

Hazard:
Heavy snow. Snowfall amounts of 7 to 15 cm.
Local blowing snow.

Late Tuesday, Jan 4 afternoon through Wednesday evening.

A low pressure system will bring snow to the region. Light snow is expected to begin late this afternoon before quickly intensifying this evening. Snowfall rates of up to 2 cm per hour are possible at times. In addition, wind gusts up to 70 km/h will further reduce visibility in local blowing snow.

If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas. Road closures are possible.
