Superior Science Workshops for SNCDSB Students
Superior Science from Lakehead University offered students at Superior North Catholic District School Board (SNCDSB) 12 workshops.
Superior Science is a student-run, non-profit program that provides outreach programming to students across Northwestern Ontario. CanCode is a large funder of Superior Science.
Students enjoyed the presentations and the learning opportunity. SNCDSB is grateful for the learning partnership developed over the last three years.
Providing hands-on learning opportunities rooted in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) is one way SNCDSB is delivering on their strategic priority of Focus on the Future. Students engaged in 21st-century learning opportunities using Tinkercad and Scratch to build their communication, collaboration, and creativity competencies. These 21st-century learning skills support students’ acquisition of transferable skills that will prepare students for their future. 21st century learning through STEM provides students with a real-world context for learning. It is important for students to develop fluency with digital programs within the current learning environment.
Tinkercad is a simplified AutoCAD program where students can create and design objects that can be printed using a 3D printer. Scratch is a coding platform where students can create their own games and programs using block coding. Superior Science connected these digital tools to career opportunities and university degrees offered at Lakehead University.
