Google’s CS First Computer Science Coding Program Offered for SNCDSB Students

Google Canada is collaborating with the Superior North Catholic District School Board to offer students in Grades 3 to 8, an amazing opportunity to learn from Tooglers (Teaching Googlers), as well as participate in a virtual tour of Google Waterloo and learn to code using Google’s CS First computer science coding program. CS First is a free introductory, ready-to-teach computer science (CS) curriculum intended for those with little or no experience in computer science. CS First is mapped to the Ontario curriculum’s expectations for Language, The Arts and Math, including the new Math curriculum, 2020. The program supports educators integrating coding into their balanced numeracy block while meeting the new coding expectations in the Math curriculum.

The following three-weeks will consist of CS First Coding workshops facilitated by EdTechTeam Canada. The interactive workshops for students and teachers will allow educators and students to learn together how to code with CS First. All eight schools across the Superior North Catholic District School Board are invited to participate to explore how coding can support student learning across the Ontario curriculum.
