WHITE RIVER, ON – Saturday, August 17th, 2019 White River residents took full advantage of the sunny, warm weather to come out and enjoy the annual Winnie-the-Pooh Parade. Visitors and tourists who were in town to enjoy the festival and parade were welcomed by local friends and families whole were along the Parade Route on both sides of Elgin Street, and along much of Winnipeg Street. The parade is one of the highlights of Winnie’s Hometown Festival which included events for all ages and interests, throughout the weekend (CLICK HERE for the entire weekend schedule).
Many of the parades participants had tributes to communities across the region as the theme for this year’s parade, and the festival as a whole, was “Winnie’s Northern Neighbourhood” . At 27oC, with sunny skies, the weather couldn’t have been better when the parade began at 11am. It’s always impressive to see the strong community spirit that exists in White River and the consistently high level of participation in community events. Many local clubs and businesses had floats in the parade as well as people of all ages who walked (and rolled) in the parade including: Mom’s pulling strollers and wagons, MP Carol Hughes and even Christina the Crazy Hooper all the way from Manitoba! (You may recognize Christina who, in addition to being featured on many Canadian TV shows, was on the Ellen Degeneres Show in the U.S. where she won 1st place in Ellen’s “Here’s my Talent” competition hula-hooping 70 hoops at once.)
The parade wrapped up at the Community Centre, where prizes were awarded for Best Themed Float, Best Business Float, Best Family Float, Best Dressed Bike and Best Dressed Wagon.
