Manitouwadge ‘Extreme Plaza’ Skate Park Nears Completion
MANITOUWADGE, ON – The skate park which residents have dreamed of for decades is under construction and nearing completion. Formally named the “Extreme Plaza’ the facility will be shared by those using skateboards, bikes and scooters. Over the years different volunteer groups had worked towards having a Skate Park in Manitouwadge. Some fundraising had been done, including through the Dragon Boat races held during the 50th Anniversary celebrations, unfortunately, these efforts had, until more recent years, been unsuccessful.
Thankfully, a number of volunteers persevered as the Manitouwadge Skatepark Committee and continued to work diligently towards their goal of making the park a reality, this included attending Town Council meetings to provide updates and move the project forward. Their have been many residents who have contributed their time and efforts over the years however the current committee members are (as listed on their Facebook group): President Coady Keough, Vice President Brad Law, Joleen Keough, Katie Law, and Karen Robinson and Youth Committee Members: Thiago Aguiar, Kaleb Bourgeois, Jeremy Gervais, and Aja Keough.
Progress on the Extreme Plaza has moved quickly this year. In May the Township, with DST Consulting Engineers as Construction Consultants, released a request for tenders for the construction of the skate park with a deadline for submissions of June 19, 2019. Contractors building the skate park, located next to the Recreation Centre Arena where tennis courts originally existed, confirmed to OntarioNewsNorth.com that their work is on schedule to be completed September 1st, 2019.
The Township has yet to announce when the new facility will be open for use by the public. Keep reading OntarioNewsNorth.com for more information about the park as it is released.
