Crossover Video: Celebrating Marathon’s 75th and Canada Day, $50 G.C. Winner & This Week’s New Movies
For many years now, popular books have been adapted into movies. Viewers can watch as their favourite characters are transformed on the big screen, giving them a face and a voice that jumps off the pages. Renowned author Stephen King has had the privilege of watching as many of his horror themed novels have come to life – perhaps none more notable than “IT”, the clown themed thriller that delved into people’s fears for decades. This week, yet another King novel, Pet Sematary, gets a chance to scare movie watchers from coast to coast. The modern day remake leads the way in a week that features a total of five new titles. Below is a brief synopsis of each;
Pet Sematary: starring Jason Clarke and John Lithgow- A man and his family relocate to a rural home in Maine where they quickly discover that mysterious burial ground near their property holds some deep dark secrets. (Horror) (DVD and Blu-Ray) Also available to rent @ 2 Doors Down in Manitouwadge
Little: starring Regina Hall, Issa Rae and Marsai Martin- A rude but successful businesswoman is transformed into the younger less popular version of herself, forcing her to re-evaluate the way that she lives her life. (Comedy) (DVD and Blu-Ray) Also available to rent @ 2 Doors Down in Manitouwadge
High Life: starring Robert Pattinson, Juliette Binoche and Andre Benjamin- When a group of criminals accept a mission to space to take part in an experiment, they must fight for survival as a storm of cosmic rays threatens their ship. (Sci-Fi/Drama) (DVD)
Professor: starring Johnny Depp- After learning that he has a terminal illness, a college professor decides to live his life with reckless abandon while also coming to grips with the grim diagnosis. (Drama/Comedy) (DVD)
After: starring Josephine Langford and Hero Fiennes Tiffin- A young college student falls for a fellow student with a dark secret as the two embark on the road to a rocky relationship. (Drama/Romance) (DVD)
75TH Anniversary Celebrations!
Happy Anniversary Marathon! This past week, our wonderful town marked the occasion with a full slate of activities starting with opening ceremonies at Penn Lake Park.
Throughout the week, a number of residents, former residents and visitors had the opportunity to meet or reconnect at events like; the Pancake Breakfast, Trivia Night, Legion Market, Slo-Pitch Tournament and the street dance which attracted a reported 500 attendees.
In addition to sponsoring a team in the slo-pitch tournament, Crossover was also on hand providing concession services at the Outdoor Movie Night. The slightly cool weather that evening may have kept some people inside, but an estimated 90 people brought out their lawn chairs and blankets to watch Jumanji 2 on the inflatable screen at Dyer’s field.
The formal closing ceremonies for the 75th Anniversary celebrations took place a day before Canada Day with many visitors staying to take part in Canada Day festivities at Penn Lake Park where Crossover Video and Games was again on hand selling popcorn and chips. The park was jam packed with people young and old- some enjoyed lunch while others tried their luck at the carnival games or took a hop on the bouncy castles.
Feedback from attendees of the weeklong celebrations was overwhelmingly positive as everyone sharing that they had enjoyed the opportunity to celebrate our awesome little town and reconnect with friends and neighbours from years past!
