A few years ago, Jordan Peele was best known as a comedic actor- most notably from the show Key &Peele. Then in 2017, Peele showed a different side of himself as the writer, producer and director of “Get Out”. The horror/thriller would go on to achieve critical acclaim while also cleaning up at the box office. Furthermore, the movie made a direct point to take a jab at race in society. Earlier this year, Peele followed up his impressive directorial debut with yet another socially relevant horror/thriller gem- this week’s headline new release- “US”. There are a total of five new titles this week, with a brief synopsis of each below;
US: starring Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke- A family’s retreat to their lakeside vacation home turns into a horrifying ordeal when a family of look-alikes begin terrorizing them. (Horror/Thriller) (DVD and Blu-Ray) Also available to rent @ 2 Doors Down in Manitouwadge
Wonder Park: featuring the voices of Jennifer Garner and Mila Kunis- A young girl’s vivid imagination brings to life an amusement park hidden in the woods. (Family/Animated) (DVD and Blu-Ray) Also available to rent @ 2 Doors Down in Manitouwadge
Hotel Mumbai: starring Dev Patel, Armie Hammer and Jason Isaacs- Based on a TRUE STORY! After a terrorist attack at the famed Taj Hotel, staff risk their lives to keep everyone safe as people make unthinkable sacrifices to protect themselves and their families. Run the Race: starring Tanner Stine- Two brothers, both high school athletic stars, face a series of problems that put their relationship and personal views to the test. (Drama) (DVD and Blu-Ray)
Slaughterhouse Rulez: starring Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Asa Butterfield- An illustrious British boarding school becomes a bloody battleground when a mysterious sinkhole unleashes unspeakable horror. (Horror/Comedy) (DVD)
Business Awards and Gala:
We are beyond delighted to have received 2 Awards at the Marathon District Chamber of Commerce Business Awards and Gala in the categories of Business Excellence and Customer Service! On behalf of all of us here at Crossover, we’d like to thank; the hardworking organizing committee of the event (spearheaded by Dayna Bobrowski-Lowndes and Greg Vallance), the Moose Hall volunteers, Chef Luis Carlos Jose and his team, Emcee Al Cresswell Cfno and everyone else who played a part in the event. A big special thank you goes out to those who nominated us- we are truly grateful for your support! Congratulations also to the other winners and nominees.
This event is a true testament to the talented and savvy entrepreneurs, young professionals, volunteers, and non-profit organizations that call Marathon home. We are really lucky! Lastly, we encourage everyone to continue shopping local to maintain a prosperous and diverse economy! Thanks again!
