MarathonOPP: Aggravated Assault Investigation, Victim Passes Away
MARATHON, ON – On July 31, 2018, at approximately 3:00 p.m., members of the Marathon Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an unconscious male at a residence on Stevens Avenue in Marathon. Officers attended and confirmed that a 20-year-old male from Marathon was receiving medical attention from Superior North Emergency Medical Services. He was subsequently flown to Thunder Bay for further medical assistance.
Marathon resident Sheldon FINLAYSON, 45-years-old, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault contrary to section 268 of the Criminal Code and appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice in Marathon August 1, 2018. He remains in custody.
Late in the afternoon of August 1, 2018 the victim, identified as 20-year-old Wade Hendry-Lee OTIQUAM-JOY from Marathon, passed away in hospital.
A post mortem is scheduled to take place at the Office of the Chief Coroner and Forensic Pathology Service (OCC-OFPS) in Toronto on Saturday, August 4, 2018.
Members of the OPP North West Region Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Services under the direction of Detective Inspector Darryl Sigouin of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner. There is no concern for public safety.
