Benjamin Jewiss Appointed Principal at St. Brigid School in Nakina
Mr. Benjamin Jewiss has ten years of teaching and leadership experience in communities in Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. For the past four years, he has been teaching at St. Brigid School in Nakina where he has worked to implement an original, land and inquiry-based Ojibwe language and culture program as well as to integrate and celebrate Catholic culture and Gospel values across the curriculum and throughout the community.
He holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Bachelor of Education Degree from Nipissing University where he specialized in the Education of Native Canadians.
Mr. Jewiss is heavily engaged in the community of Greenstone and in St. Brigid’s Parish in Nakina. He is the Second Vice President and Poppy Committee Chair for the 116 W. A. “Bill” Grant Branch Of the Royal Canadian Legion and holds the rank of Lieutenant in the Canadian Armed Forces reserves, currently serving as the Training Officer and Deputy Commanding Officer of 227 Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron based in Geraldton.
Mr. Jewiss is excited to be taking on this new role. He believes wholeheartedly in collaboration and the ability of all students to achieve personal greatness and is looking forward to serving its staff, students, communities and parish.
