Speeding Tickets for Manitouwadge Swimmer From Silver Pikes
THUNDER BAY, ON – May 25-27, the Thunder Bay Thunderbolts hosted their annual Swim Ontario sanctioned meet, the First General Grand Prix Swimming Championships held at the Canada Games Complex. Ayla McKinnon, an 11 yr old swimmer from Manitouwadge, competed in the championship as the only team mate from Marathon’s Silver Pikes.
Ayla may have attended without her club but was certainly not lonely at the meet as the Dryden Dolphins, noting the young swimmer was attending solo, invited her to enjoy the weekend with them. She was also cheered on in the stands by her brothers, parents, and Grandparents throughout the weekend.
Celina, Ayla’s mom, explained “We really enjoy the sportsmanship at swim meets. The parents are also very friendly, it is a very positive environment for the kids to compete in.
Ayla competed in a number of Girls 12 & Under events including; 100 LC Meter Freestyle, 50 LC Meter Breaststroke, 200 LC Meter IM, 100 LC Meter Backstroke, 50 LC Meter Butterfly, 200 LC Meter Freestyle, 100 LC Meter Freestyle. She was especially excited to have earned a number of Speeding Tickets which are awarded to swimmers who record a personal best time in an event.
Congratulations to Ayla on her success at the meet and to all the Marathon Silver Pikes on their continued efforts in the pool!
