Ontario Mining Health and Safety Conference April 17 to 19 in Sudbury
Sold-out event to be livestreamed around the globe
SUDBURY, ON – From April 17 to 19, Workplace Safety North (WSN) hosts about 300 attendees at the annual Mining Health and Safety Conference in Sudbury. The sold-out event brings together the Ontario mining industry to learn and share knowledge regarding the latest health and safety information and innovations specific to mining.

“We’re pleased to welcome miners from across the province to the 20th annual Mining Health and Safety Conference themed ‘Building a strong health and safety culture,’” says Paul Andre, WSN Acting President and Chief Executive Officer. “In the last two decades, we’ve seen immense improvement in health and safety in Ontario mines and this event celebrates these advancements.
“Mining is a vital and technically demanding industry,” notes Andre. “WSN has more than 25 mining health and safety specialists and mine rescue officers to provide specialized services and training across Ontario, including expertise in mine ventilation, ground control, as well as rescue and recovery operations. WSN also helps mining companies assess health and safety risks and meet legislative requirements.”
Michelle Ray, keynote speaker and entrepreneur, opens the conference with a talk on the power of personal leadership in the workplace. Jody Kuzenko, mining industry expert, discusses bridging the gap between the head and the heart. Brett Webb, culture and organizational development specialist, focuses on the importance of workplace culture, and Jim Lees, intergenerational wellness specialist, discusses mental health and wellness in a multigenerational workplace.
Technical sessions include topics on mining health and safety research and innovations, mine rescue, safety culture and management systems, workplace well-being and mental health, and occupational hazards.
More than 30 exhibitors, including Technica Mining, Draeger Safety Canada, and 3M Canada participate in the one-day tradeshow.
On the final day of the conference, the Ontario Mine Contractors Safety Association presents the Safety Innovation Awards for the most innovative tools and techniques to improve mine safety, and WSN presents Workplace Excellence Awards to Ontario mining companies that have excelled in health and safety. Keynote speaker Corrie Pitzer wraps-up the conference with a presentation about safety leadership and culture.
