MANITOUWADGE, ON – December 12th, Students and staff from Manitouwadge High School, Manitouwadge Public School, Our Lady of Lourdes School and Ecole Publique Franco-Manitou gathered at the recreation centre auditorium this week for a holiday luncheon organized by Township of Manitouwadge Community Programmer Reene Warren through the Healthy Kids Community Challenge program.

Community Programmer Reene Warren explained “Though each of the schools have their own events to celebrate the holidays we felt it was important to bring the students together as one community.  We also wanted to ensure that every student in Manitouwadge had the opportunity to enjoy a special, healthy, holiday meal.”

Warren organized the event with the help of Registered Dietitian Keirra MacKenzie (Manitouwadge Family Health Team), and Program Coordinator Nikki Chic (Best Start) and many parent and community volunteers.

Students we spoke with commented on how special it was to enjoy a holiday meal, (complete with turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, other veggies, and all the trimmins) with their friends, classmates, teachers and peers from other schools.

In light of the success of the luncheon and the enthusiasm of students and staff, it is hoped the holiday-luncheon will become an annual event.
