WAWA, ON – On July 30, 2017 at approximately 5 p.m., Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members of the Superior East Wawa Detachment were notified of found human remains in the Lake Superior Provincial Park area south of the Municipality of Wawa.
Superior East OPP members, with the assistance of Sault Ste. Marie Forensic Identification Service, Sault Ste. Marie OPP Crime Unit, Emergency Response Team and the Unmanned Aerial System, are continuing this investigation under the direction of Major Case Manager Detective Inspector Rob Matthews, OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).
The Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service are also engaged in this investigation and have deployed a Forensic Anthropologist to assist.
There are no further details at this time as the investigation is ongoing.
