Canada Day Celebrations in Manitouwadge (Photos+Video)
MANITOUWADGE, ON – The Township of Manitouwadge had originally planned to have Canada Day community events both Friday evening and Saturday throughout the day, unfortunately weather did not cooperate Friday evening, the pool party scheduled to kick off the season at the Oasis Pool had to be cancelled due to the inclement weather while bouncy castles were moved indoors to the auditorium.
Though there was a great turnout for the bouncy castles, the small confined space of the auditorium made for a noisy, smelly and hot event (it should be noted a majority of kids seemed to take no notice of this however one has to wonder why the arena wasn’t used as it has more space, is more easily accessible and has a large door to allow for ventilation).
Saturday a BBQ was held volunteers from Bethany Pentecostal Church cooked up the delicious lunch (which also serves as a fundraiser) at the Lion’s beach along with some fun events organized by the Township. Among the highlights was the live music by local performers who played great music from a library of loved Canadian classics (my favourite – Blackfly sung by Betty Gilman).
Though residents seemed unanimous in their appreciation of the warm temperatures and shining sun, they also delighted at the opportunity to cool off as members of the Bethany Pentecostal Church offered a refreshing surprise to all those at the Lion’s Beach event, passing out free giant freezies.
