Kids and Cops Free Fishing Event at White Lake Provincial Park
MARATHON, ON – Children are getting their fishing gear ready for the Kids Fishing Derby, July 8.
The event will begin at 10am and wrap up at 2 pm at White Lake Provincial Park. The event is free, however participants must pay for a day entry to the park at $11.25 (taxes included). Participants are required to bring their own PFDs and bait, however there will be some PFDs on hand for kids to borrow. There will also be a free barbeque lunch at 12 noon for the participants. This is a catch and release event, and everyone will receive a prize.
This event is part of the Canada-wide celebration, National Fishing Week, July 1 through 9. To learn more, visit www.catchfishing.com.
Also July 1 to 9: the annual Ontario Family Fishing Week. For one full week, Canadian residents can enjoy the fun of fishing in Ontario without the need of a licence!
The event is sponsored by the Canadian National Sportfishing Foundation, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting and protecting recreational fishing. It is also supported by Fishing Forever, the Police Association of Ontario, and Canadian Tire.
Fishing Forever chair Bob Izumi is an avid supporter of recreational fishing for both the young and the young at heart. “I love to create opportunities for children and families to go fishing,” states Izumi. “Fishing is one of the very best ways for parents and other adults to establish productive and healthy relationships with children.”
