MARATHON, ON – On Wednesday, March 16, 2017 at approximately 12:40 pm, Marathon and Manitouwadge members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of a plane crash that happened on Tuesday, March 15, 2017 at 11:38 pm approximately 60 km East of Marathon.
The crash site was located by the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) and Search and Rescue (SAR) technicians.
The plane, described as a single engine, Cessna 172 was rented in Ann Arbour, Michigan.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is investigating the plane crash with the assistance of the Marathon OPP Detachment members and Northwest Region Emergency Response Team (ERT). The OPP also has a helicopter on scene that has been deployed from Thunder Bay.
