Total of $1,100 in Fines for Fishing and Boating Violations

A Beardmore man has been fined a total of $1,100 for fishing and boating offences.

Benjamin MacAdam pleaded guilty and was fined $500 for fishing without a licence, and $600 for operating a vessel without personal life-saving and vessel safety equipment on board. MacAdam is also prohibited from obtaining or possessing a fishing licence of any kind and from engaging in fishing-related activities for two years.

Court heard that on July 16, 2016, conservation officers contacted MacAdam while on routine patrol on Lake Nipigon and found he was fishing without a licence. Further inspection revealed the power vessel MacAdam was operating did not have a buoyant heaving line, a manual propelling device, such as oars or paddles, or anchor and line. MacAdam’s fishing gear was seized and forfeited to the Crown.

Justice of the Peace Denette Maslach heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Nipigon, on January 9, 2016.
