MP Visits Schreiber School
SCHREIBER, ON – On her recent visit around the region, Minister Patty Hajdu stopped by Holy Angels School to speak with students and staff, and answer questions about her role as Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour.
Students asked her about her job, her home, and her favourite connections with people. Minister Hajdu explained, to the Grade 7 and 8 students, the importance of being open to possibilities with careers “Work hard, try your best, and don’t limit yourself to possibilities” explained the Minister. She explained how she never would have seen herself as an elected official working with the Prime Minister, but how experiences and opportunities in her life have influenced her journey.
When visiting with the Grade 5 and 6 students, the MP discussed the idea of Fair Trade with students and how fortunate we are to have access to fair and equitable labour laws. She learned about our challenge to others to walk 600 kms “in Charlie’s footsteps” in memory of Charlie Wenjack, and read letters from Pearl Wenjack, written in response back to students in our Native Language and Culture class.
We loved having the opportunity to show off our school and to hear her words of wisdom – thanks Patty!
