Getting Techy @Nakina Public School
GREENSTONE, ON – Students at Nakina Public School have been working with some exciting new classroom technology over the past couple of months. They have been diving into some new learning around coding and programming with the school’s brand new set of 4 Sphero SPRKs! Ms Evoy’s grade 4/5/6/7 class has loved being able to use the Spheros to work through some hands on math activities by programming the robots to follow an obstacle course, create polygons, and measure distances. They have also learned how to write their own computer programs using a software program named Scratch, as well as participated in the Hour of CODE in December.
Her students were eager to teach the grade 2/3 class about coding and showing them how they can write their own programs too! Coding presents students with some meaningful and hands on learning opportunities that challenge students to problem solve as well as engage in computational thinking. It is exciting to see students so excited about their learning and to see for themselves how coding can fit across the curriculum!
Thanks to Grade 4/5/6/7 teacher, Krystyn Evoy, for sharing details of the exciting work being done by students at Nakina Public School!
