Superior-Greenstone DSB Participates in Global Hour Of Code
NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO – Students within Superior-Greenstone District School Board once again participated in the global Hour of CODE challenge that occurred on December 5-9th. The hour of CODE is a global event designed to provide introductory learning opportunities for learners of all ages into the world of code.
This year we had 36 teachers and over 570 students participate in the global Hour of Code event this year! We are embedding the Hour of CODE into a series of 6 challenges that will allow learners of all ages to learn to code and challenge their thinking.
Coding is not about the technology. It is about the learning. It’s a way of thinking. We want our students from across Superior-Greenstone District School Board to develop computational thinking skills and 21st century competencies such as critical thinking/problem solving skills, creativity, collaboration and communication.
According to a 2016 ICTC Digital Talent Strategy Report, there will be 200,000 unfilled Information and communication technology jobs by 2020. In order to stay competitive and sophisticated with our economy, Canada will need skilled workers who can be creative and innovative in this digital world.
As our coding journey in Superior-Greenstone District School Board continues throughout the year, we are excited to see where the learning takes us!
