Terrace Bay to Install Pole for Franco-Ontarian Flag

TERRACE BAY, ON ̶ The Club francophone du lac Supérieur is proud to proclaim that the Franco-Ontarian flag will float, 6 months a year, at the Tourist Information Center in Terrace Bay.
Following the work by Ms. Lise Roy, President of the Club francophone, and Ms. Élise Kenny, Vice-President, the township officially announced that it would grant a space for the installation of a new flag pole. Ms. Kenny stated that she is proud to have accomplished this and will be in attendance when the pole is installed.
For the French-speaking community of the township, this news brings a new breath of life. The new flag pole will provide visibility essential to attracting French-speaking tourists traveling along the Trans Canadian Highway. In addition, the flag shows that the Township recognizes the contribution of its French-speaking citizens, as well as those of French descent, to the development of the region. We are hoping that this accomplishment will inspire other communities in Northwestern Ontario to follow in the footsteps of Terrace Bay.
The flag raising ceremonies have been coordinated by AFNOO for several years to underline Franco-Ontarian Day celebrations, and in recent times important gains have been observed throughout the region, specifically in Greenstone, Red Lake, and Terrace Bay.
A community dinner was held in Terrace Bay on October 22nd, where a total of 48 people attended to celebrate this great victory. The Club francophone would like to wholeheartedly thank the volunteers involved in the organization and the people who attended the event.
The Club francophone du lac Supérieur wishes to reach all French speakers in the Superior North region and invite them to participate in its future activities. It recently obtained financial support from the New Horizons for Seniors Program to put together a calendar of French activities throughout the region and the club needs Francophone residents involved to do so.

Terrace Bay aura son mât pour le drapeau franco-ontarien
TERRACE BAY, ON ̶ Le club francophone du Lac Supérieur est heureux d’annoncer que le drapeau franco-ontarien flottera de façon permanente, 6 mois par année, au centre d’informations touristique de la municipalité de Terrace Bay.
Suite au dossier piloté durant les derniers mois par mesdames Lise Roy et Élise Kenny, présidente et vice-présidente du club francophone du Lac Supérieur, la municipalité a procédé à l’annonce de l’octroi d’un emplacement pour installer un nouveau mât. « Nous sommes fiers d’avoir accompli ce projet, qui représentait beaucoup pour notre communauté. Il est clair que je serai présente quand le mât va être monté et que notre drapeau va y flotter » résume Mme Kenny.
Le nouveau drapeau procurera une visibilité essentielle pour attirer des touristes francophones qui empruntent la Transcanadienne. Cette annonce est également un signe que la Municipalité reconnaît la contribution des francophones à son développement et sa prospérité. Le club francophone espère que cette nouvelle inspirera d’autres communautés du Nord-Ouest à emboîter le pas de Terrace Bay.
Les levers de drapeaux sont coordonnés par l’AFNOO depuis plusieurs années pour souligner la journée franco-ontarienne et des gains importants ont été observés suite aux levers organisés, notamment à Greenstone, Red Lake, Manitouwadge et Terrace Bay.
Afin de célébrer cet événement, un souper communautaire a également été organisé à Terrace Bay le 22 octobre dernier. Au total, 48 personnes y étaient présentes pour souligner cette belle victoire. Le club tient d’ailleurs à remercier chaleureusement tous les bénévoles impliqués et les personnes présentes à cette soirée.
Le club francophone du lac Supérieur invite les francophones et francophiles de la région Supérieur Nord à ce joindre à lui lors de ses activités futures. Il tient également à souligner la contribution financière du programme Nouveaux Horizons pour les aînés au projet de création d’un catalogue d’activités en français dans la région et invite les gens à s’impliquer dans le projet.
