Premier Wynne Announces Local Health Hub in Manitouwadge

MCCCMANITOUWADGE, ON – August 7th, Premier Kathleen Wynne announced that Manitouwadge General Hospital has been selected as one of five sites in Ontario to integrate local health services under one structure serving the local residents. These changes will further align health services and programs to better serve residents of Manitouwadge.

In the late 1980s, the Board of Directors envisioned a future when all health services in a small community would be under one roof facilitating coordination of services and patient navigation. To support that vision, the community funded and built a section of the new hospital to accommodate health partners in one location. In 2010, Manitouwadge General Hospital was successful in having a Family Health Team established with hospital governance. Since then, additional services have joined the integrated health care team.

In her announcement, the Premier of Ontario, Kathleen Wynne stated “Our government is working to ensure access to high-quality health care in every corner of Ontario. By bringing services together through the Rural Health Hubs project, we are making it easier for people to get access to the care they need, where they need it.”

CEO Jocelyn Bourgoin was pleased with the long awaited announcement. “Our integration journey has progressed as far as we could, but further support is required to create a single funding envelope, one quality improvement plan and one accountability agreement. This next phase will ensure our residents continue to enjoy quality services closer to home for the future”.

Board Chair Judith C. Harris echoed the sentiment stating she was: “Pleased to see that the board vision of 25 years ago is finally reaching its full potential”.

Further details of the transition will be developed with community partners and the North West LHIN.
