When Angry Birds was released as an app way back in 2009, it seemingly took the world by storm. By 2014, the game had over 2 billion downloads- a stunning number to say the least. It is therefore no shock that the mobile app inspired a series of spin-offs including video games and merchandise. To little surprise, it was announced in 2015 that an Angry Birds movie would become the latest installment in the lucrative franchise. Releases in May of 2016, the film went on to gross over 100 million dollars in North American theatres. The Angry Birds Movie is this week’s headline new release in an otherwise quiet week with only 2 new releases- thanks to the Summer Olympics. While some might see this as a bad news, I see it as an opportunity for everyone to get caught up on all of the great movies that they have missed over the past few weeks. Below is a brief synopsis of each of this week’s new movies;
Angry Birds Movie: featuring the voices of Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad and Maya Rudolph- When an island populated by happy, flightless birds is visited by mysterious green piggies, it’s up to three unlikely friends to figure out what the pigs are up to. (Family/Kids) (DVD and Blu-Ray) Also available to rent at 2 Doors Down in Manitouwadge!
Last Heist: starring Henry Rollins- A bank heist descends into violent chaos when one of the hostages turns out to be a serial killer. Now the tables are turned as the bank robbers are trapped in the building as the killer hunts them down. (Action) (DVD)
