New Canada Child Benefit Issuance in Thunder Bay-Superior North
MP and Minister of Status of Women Patty Hajdu Announces First Issuance of the Canada Child Benefit in Thunder Bay-Superior North
THUNDER BAY, ON – Today, the Honourable Patty Hajdu, MP for Thunder Bay-Superior North and Minister of Status of Women announced that families eligible for the Canada Child Benefit could receive their benefits as early as July. She made the announcement from the Nanabijou Child Care Centre in Thunder Bay.
As Minister Hajdu affirmed, the Government of Canada’s Canada Child Benefit is simpler, tax-free, better targeted, and more generous than the existing child benefits. It will help parents with the high costs of raising their kids and put more money in the pockets of 9 out of 10 Canadian families. It will also lift 300,000 Canadian children out of poverty, so that they can have the chance to reach their full potential.
“The Canada Child Benefit will put real money in the pockets of Canadian families,” said Minister Hajdu. “Many families across Thunder Bay-Superior North and Northern Ontario will have the extra income they need to help with the cost of child care, to provide nutritious food or to involve their children in extracurricular activities. The Canada Child Benefit is all about building a more inclusive, caring and compassionate society.”
