“Mental health is an issue very close to my heart,” said Hajdu. “It is my hope that by accepting this award, it helps shine a light on the importance of providing support to those living with mental illness. I recognize that access to these services is a critical issue, especially when it comes to prevention, and that is why it is among the shared health priorities that the Government of Canada is currently discussing with provinces and territories.”

Hajdu was recognized for her years of advocacy for mental health issues and the social determinants of health, including her previous roles as executive director of Shelter House and on the board of directors for Alpha Court Mental Health Services. The award ceremony will take place on May 3 in Ottawa.
