Longlac, Dubreuilville & Marathon Among CSPGNO Tour Communities
Tournée HAUT et FORT
Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario (CSPGNO) has launched a new tour in its secondary schools: “La tournée HAUT et FORT”. The aim of this tour is to raise awareness about the various challenges faced by members of the LGBT+ community and to foster an atmosphere of inclusiveness, tolerance and resilience in CSPGNO’s schools and communities.
Morning information sessions will be provided to students and staff members, specialized afternoon sessions will be available for groups of students, and evening information sessions are planned for parents and members of the community in Noëlville, Elliot Lake, Dubreuilville, Marathon, Longlac and Greater Sudbury.
The CSPGNO’s team members, Ryan Demers and Natalie Lalonde, cultural facilitators, and Diane Zannier, leader of student well-being, will begin their tour in the board’s secondary schools and Northern communities in early April. Accompanying the team will be Sophie Ducharme, a graduate of theatre studies with a minor in history from the University of Ottawa who is a freelance artist within Francophone cultural organizations in Sudbury. In her early twenties and today, Sophie Ducharme, identifies herself as a member of the LGBT community and wishes to give back to the community that welcomed her well.
Over the course of the tour, team members will have the opportunity to discuss themes such as homophobia, biphobia, transphobia and heterosexism and to share their personal journey and experiences. Professional resources will support and equip staff members and the community to improve the learning environments and ensure a safe an inclusive atmosphere in schools.
Please contact CSPGNO for more information regarding dates and times of the information sessions to be presented in CSPGNO communities.
