Confederation College Student Union Recognizes Athletic Achievements
THUNDER BAY, ON – The Student Union of Confederation College Inc. (SUCCI) hosted its Annual Athletic Awards Banquet on April 6, 2016. The banquet recognized the accomplishments of local and regional athletes and coaches.
Skip of the Thunderhawks Women’s Curling team, Megan St. Amand, was crowned this year’s Female Athlete of the Year. St. Amand hails from Kakabeka Falls and will be a graduate of the Medical Laboratory Assistant program. Megan is also the recipient of the Women’s Curling team MVP award, as well as the 2016 OCAA Women’s Curling Championship First Team All-Star – Skip Honour award. St. Amand has demonstrated her true athletic spirit and dedication for the sport of curling with her amazing accomplishments this year. She skipped the Thunderhawks to the CCAA National Curling Championships and fulfilled her dream of wearing yellow and green, representing northern Ontario at the National Mixed Curling Doubles in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Thunderhawks Cross Country Runner, Greg Kilroy was once again presented with this year’s Male Athlete of the Year award. Kilroy, whose hometown is Powassan, ON, is graduating from the Medical Radiation Technology program. Kilroy qualified to advance to the CCAA Cross Country Running National Championships and is recipient of the Thunderhawk’s Cross Country Running MVP award. He is also a recipient of the OCAA All-Academic Award. Kilroy demonstrated athletic prowess and commitment to College athletics, making him the natural choice for recipient of this award.

The Thunderhawks Women’s Hockey team MVP Award went to Drue Ahola.
Ontario Colleges Athletic Association’s All Academic Awards were presented to Hunter Bouchard, Shelby Cramer, Kevin Jackson, Greg Kilroy, Jorge Reyes Gallardo.
Red Lake’s Cole Badiuk, graduating from the Mechanical Engineering Technician program, was chosen as this year’s D.A.R. Bradshaw Athletic Achievement Award recipient. This award is presented to a graduating student, demonstrating the most improvement in and contribution to athletics, and whose quality of spirit and competitive drive contributed to the overall success of the College athletic program. Badiuk has been SUCCI’s Director of Athletics for the past three years and a member of the Thunderhawks’ Men’s Indoor Soccer team for the past two years.
