WAWA, ON – The Superior East Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to inform the public of the rules and regulations pertaining to Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV).
What is Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and what can it be used for?
The unmanned aerial vehicles, or UAVs, are small, commercially-available, remotely-piloted, helicopter-like devices, similar to those purchased and used by remote controlled aircraft enthusiasts around the world. They can be used by private or third party for personal use or business owners such as media to support investigations with photographs and video below 400 feet of altitude and have maximum flight duration of approximately 20 minutes.
Laws and Regulations that apply to the use of UAVs by public or third-party;
UAVs operate under strict conditions governed by Transport Canada, the Aeronautics Act and Canadian Aviation Regulations. The OPP will act upon a complaint regarding potential criminal use of a UAV by a third-party or private operator as it would with any other complaint of criminal behaviour or activity.
You can check with Transport Canada regarding laws and regulations as it relates to private / third-party uses of UAVs by visiting the following web sites.
