#SNC2D Learning with QR CODES @LakeSuperiorHS
TERRACE BAY, ON – This week grade 10 students in Mr. Blackwood’s science class applied their learning and shared this learning with their fellow students at Lake Superior High School by using student created videos and QR Code students used their cellphones and computers to access technology to enhance their learning of biology and human systems.
As Prachi said, “it’s a cool way that made the learning fun!”

The idea started when I saw Trinity, Tatum, Hafsa, and Vinnie tracing themselves on oversized paper in the hallways.
As the students told me about their project and what their success criteria was, I challenged them to embed the use of technology into their activity to share their learning with Mr. Blackwood and the other learners at Lake Superior High School and create their own content rather than simply transferring written text from a book to paper.
The students used the powerful computer they access all the time, their cellphones, to record the main parts of the human body systems that they wanted their fellow learners to learn about. Students took turns recording short videos about the importance of each human system for the human body.

The students then uploaded their videos their YouTube channels or their Google Drive and then created QR Codes using the links that these sites generated.

The QR Codes, which link back to each individual student created video, were glued to the corresponding location on the body outline that the students had drawn.

The students had to “unlearn” their traditional way of documenting their learning, but in the end they learned how to embed technology and the tools they have at hand to demonstrate to Mr. Blackwood what they had learned about human systems.
The feedback was very positive from the students; “making the videos and the QR codes let us show that you know what you are talking about instead of just copying from a text and everyone in the group helped each other”-Vinnie
