A Prince Township man has been fined $3,000 for unlawful hunting.
James Williamson pleaded guilty to hunting a cow moose without a licence and was fined $3,000. The moose was forfeited to the Crown.
Court heard that on November 2, 2015, a conservation officer with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry encountered Williamson in the vicinity of the Voyageur Hiking Trail in Prince Township, west of Sault Ste. Marie. Williamson was in the process of loading an untagged cow moose into an all-terrain vehicle. An investigation revealed that Williamson shot the cow moose earlier that morning while he was hunting deer from a tree stand. Williamson did not possess a 2015 moose licence or an adult validation tag.
Justice of the Peace Paula Nichols heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Sault Ste. Marie, on March 3, 2016.
