A Manitouwadge area outfitter was fined $1,000 for unlawfully hunting bear without a licence.

Christopher Fuge of Rosholt, Wisconsin, and owner of Happy Camps in Hillsport, pleaded guilty and was fined $1,000 for hunting bear off of his Bear Management Area.

Court heard that between August 15 and 19, 2015, three non-resident black bear hunters being guided by Fuge were hunting off of the authorized Bear Management Area where he is licensed to provide bear hunting services.

Justice of the Peace Jean-Marie Blier heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Hearst, on March 8, 2016.

The ministry reminds the public that Bear Management Areas are a cornerstone of Ontario’s bear management program and allow licensed bear operators to manage the bear harvest by non-resident hunters.
