MP Patty Hajdu welcomes refugee family to Thunder Bay

govcanadaTHUNDER BAY, ON – Thunder Bay—Superior North MP and Minister of Status of Women Patty Hajdu today extended a welcome to the family of six Syrian refugees who arrived in Thunder Bay on Friday.
“Our government is proud to be doing the right thing by offering refugees a safe haven from war and conflict,” said Hajdu. “By welcoming the Al Kweyder family and other refugees to Canada, we’re not only helping those in need, we’re also providing these new Canadians an opportunity to help build stronger communities across the country.”
Over 19,000 Syrian refugees have arrived in Canada since the start of the #WelcomeRefugees initiative, designed to quickly and successfully bring new refugees to Canada. The Government of Canada is also working with other levels of government, NGOs, and Canadians across the country to help refugees successfully integrate into their new host communities after they arrive.

“In Thunder Bay and across the country, Canadians are welcoming Syrian refugees into their communities with open arms,” said Hajdu. “In the face of the worst refugee crisis of our time, they are showing the world that Canada is about compassion and generosity, and that we are living up to our shared responsibility to help people who are displaced and persecuted.”
