SUDBURY, ON – Tuesday, February 23, 84 Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) students will meet at the Science North Vale Cavern in Sudbury for the 2016 Great Robotic Challenge (Le Grand Défi Robotique). This friendly contest for students representing 11 CSCNO French Catholic elementary schools will see them strive to build the most efficient robot. This year, a video contest will also take place during this event. Members of the media are invited to attend the competition, scheduled to run from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Le Grand Défi Robotique requires each team to build a robot made from LEGO EV3 and NXT blocks that will see its quality tested during two different contests. These trials will measure the robot’s strength and precision as well as the success of its programming and level of control by its student masters. Because the robots will have to accomplish different tasks, student teams will be able to modify their machine’s construction and programming between the trials. Prizes will be awarded for efficiency, quality of school banners as well as their team cheer.

This year’s 13th edition of Le Grand Défi Robotique will enable students from grades 4 through 8 to display their creativity, ingenuity and tenacity. The nature of the challenges students face in this friendly competition encourages teamwork and ingenuity while initiating them to the world of engineering and technology.

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
