GERALDTON, ON -The Greenstone Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is advising the public of a hoax currently circulating in the Greenstone area.
The hoax begins with someone being told to ask the speech recognition application of their cell phone about or to call 9/11, 112, 999 or 000, all of which will connect the caller to the 911 emergency line.
Police are requesting that if 911 is dialled in error, stay on the line and clarify that your call was a mistake.
Police remind the public that 911 should only be used for emergencies and crimes in progress.
