Correction to age of accused
FORT SEVERN, ON – The Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service (NAPS), assisted by members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North East Region Crime Unit and North West Region Forensic Identification Services, under the direction of Detective Inspector Peter Loree of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) are investigating a death in the First Nation community of Fort Severn, Ontario.
On Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at approximately 8:45 pm, members of NAPS responded to a report of a stabbing that occurred in the First Nation community of Fort Severn. Upon arrival an injured male was located outside of a residence and transported by officers to the Fort Severn nursing station where he later died. The deceased has been identified as a resident of Fort Severn, George THOMAS, 45 years of age. A 35 year old female resident of Fort Severn has been arrested and is presently in custody, pending a bail hearing, on a charge of Second Degree Murder contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code.
A post mortem examination is being conducted at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
The investigation is ongoing and further information will be updated as it becomes available.
