MANITOUWADGE, ON – Saturday afternoon (Nov.21) the Township’s Annual Christmas Craft & Gift Show was held at the recreation centre.  A wide variety of local and area vendors as well as non-profits groups, local schools and sports/service clubs had booths offering a plethora of products and services.

This year’s show also provided the Northern Trails Cross-Country Ski Club with an opportunity to show off their new location, across from the curling ice (where restaurants have previously been located), with potential members or volunteers.  In addition to their chili lunch, the club offered visistors the opportunity to cook their own s’mores and enjoy a hot chocolate while hearing from executive members about some of their plans for the 2015-16 season.

The craft show is hosted by the Township’s Leisure & Community Services department, organized by Community Programmer Shawna Patterson.  Patterson continues to grow the show year after year, and, in addition to welcoming new booths, 2015 also saw a new floor-plan used in the auditorium which maximized available space while allowing plenty of room for the hundreds of shoppers who attended throughout the afternoon to browse leisurely and perhaps, check off many of those on the gift-giving list.

Taking advantage of an available audience on Saturday the Manitouwadge Minor Hockey Association hosted 2 Bantam division exhibition games as the Manitouwadge Copper Kings faced off against the Marathon Mercury.  In the lobby amongst the Craft & Gift Show tables the MMHA had a penny table and also allowed visitors to buy in to their intermission Chuck-a-Puck and other fundraising fun. People who might not have typically come out specifically for a hockey game, found themselves unable to resist after just a glance into the arena as both Bantam teams impressed spectators keeping them glued to their seats throughout both games. In the end the Marathon Mercury would claim dual victories winning the games 5-2 and 2-1.
