Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing MP Carol Hughes
ELLIOT LAKE, ON – Carol Hughes is sending a message appreciation and congratulations to voters after being re-elected in Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing. The New Democrat MP was enthusiastic about the high voter turnout on Monday which reversed a consistent downward trend over a number of elections.
“I think anyone who went out and voted should feel proud about it,” said Hughes. “It’s a good sign that the percentage of voters went up across the country. It shows that people are more politically engaged and breaks a declining trend of voter participation.”
Hughes also expressed personal gratitude to the people of Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing who elected her for the third time and reached out to those who voted for other candidates as well.
“I am humbled by the trust that has been placed in me by the voters,” said Hughes. “I want everyone who voted for another candidate to know that I am here for them too. If someone comes to my office for assistance we do that in a non-partisan way because that’s such an important part of this job.”
Hughes looks forward to Parliament’s returning.
