Manitouwadge Welcomes New Physician
The Manitouwadge General Hospital is pleased to welcome Dr. Suzanne Shoush to the community as a permanent physician to work with Dr. Cote while recruitment for a third physician continues.
As many know, Dr. James MacTavish and Dr. Karin Petersen are leaving our community on October 1st, after 10 years of dedicated service to the community. They were instrumental in transitioning the clinic to electronic health records and helped plan the renovations to facilitate a joint practice. Their personal touch and dedication will be missed. It was always a pleasure to see them involved in various events and organizations with their young family. We wish them the best in the next phase of their career and understand they may return for locum visits.
The hospital is working closely with Dr. Cote and Dr. Shoush to ensure a smooth transition. Two new locums have been recruited to help fill gaps pending the recruitment of a third doctor. It is hoped that some of these locums will fall in love with our community and become permanent physicians themselves. Further steps are being explored to better align the services of the Manitouwadge Family Health Team and the [Manitouwadge Medical] Clinic as well as the Manitouwadge General Hospital. Board Chair, Mrs. Judith Harris was pleased the Hospital was successful in recruiting someone so quickly despite the loss of two physicians.
“It reflects well on the type of care and services the Manitouwadge Community Health Care Centre can offer that a permanent physician is recruited immediately and two new locums are excited to join the team”. Mrs. Harris further expressed her appreciation for Dr. Petersen’s and Dr. MacTavish many years of dedicated service to their patients and the Hospital.
CEO, Jocelyn Bourgoin, appreciates the years of stability having three doctors in our community offered. “Recruitment was something we have not had to worry about for many years, but now that we have to search for quality physicians, I’m pleased with the interest generated by our community and the calibre of individuals out looking for places to practice. Many have new ideas on ways to deliver health care as part of an integrated team and we look forward to their input” said Bourgoin.
