Common Registration Night Welcomes Back Popular Youth Activities
MANITOUWADGE, ON – In addition to those organizations Manitouwadge residents count on connecting with at the annual Common Registration Night each year, 2015 saw the return of past favourites; Girl Guides of Canada and Keith Johnson’s School of Rock, while a familiar organizations, the Bethany Pentecostal Youth Group had a new face at their table, a new Youth Pastor was in attendance promoting the church’s youth group with one of it’s teen members.
Guiding has returned to Manitouwadge and new Guide-Brownie-Spark multi-unit’s volunteer Guiders in attendance were spreading the word about how they’ll be inspiring girl greatness among their 5-11yr old members. The Guiders were also successful in filling their few remaining available spaces within just days of Common Registration Night. Guider-in-charge Cara Glaister (aka Brown Owl) shared information with those interested regarding the unit’s upcoming activities including a reminder to everyone that the girls will have cookies for sale after September 29th.
Marathon based music teacher Keith Johnson was in attendance promoting lessons through his business ‘School of Rock’. Johnson has been sharing his musical expertise with the region for several years and in addition to regular lessons offered in Marathon, Schreiber and Terrace Bay he visits Manitouwadge every Monday and looks forward to filling the few remaining spaces in his schedule. There were also many groups taking registrations and/or sharing information including the Manitouwadge Learning Centre, Manitouwadge Minor Hockey Association, MHS Athletic Association, Superior North Victim Services, Manitouwadge Family Health Team and others. New tables drew significant interest from attendees also including a dog training service and
Organized by the Township’s Community Services Department and Community Programmer Shawna Patterson, common registration night is an important event which Manitouwadge residents and families rely on to learn about new and returning programming for adults and youth each fall.
Outside the Recreation Centre, Manitouwadge Volunteer Firefighters were on foot at the traffic circle collecting donations for Muscular Dystrophy with their annual ‘Fill the Boot’ campaign. One of the fire engines helped attract the attention of drivers while Sparky was on foot doing his part and, of course, always welcoming photos with kids who stopped to see him on their way to attending Common Registration Night.
