Young Entrepreneurs’ Market Day A Great Success
MANITOUWADGE, ON – A week of learning, fun, product creation and development, visits from local business people and more wound up Friday, August 21st for 11 young entrepreneurs, ages 9-12, participating in the Township of Manitouwadge’s BizKids program.
The 10 businesses (9 individual owners and one team of 2) , welcomed buyers to their open air Market Day in the Township’s parking lot to purchase products created by the youth including desserts, hand-crafted items, art, jewelry, home made play-dough, bbq rubs, and many more original products.
After the market, the kids re-grouped in the town office to tally their profits – they were very pleased to announce sales totalling more than $1100 between them! The entrepreneurs were then joined by family and friends for a pizza and cake. During the celebration, the youth were presented with certificates by Mayor Andy Major. A long-time business owner himself, Mayor Major spoke to the kids about what they had learned throughout the week, the benefits and challenges of owning a business and congratulated them on the success of their market. Held annually, the Manitouwadge BizKids program, and it’s Market Day, have become a summer highlight in the community anticipated by participants and shoppers alike.
As in previous years, Economic Development Assistant Karen Robinson was responsible for organizing and facilitating the program, along with Community Programmer Shawna Patterson. Congratulations to the BizKids on their success!
