NDP Candidate Andrew Foulds Visits Greenstone
GREENSTONE, ON – Andrew Foulds took his campaign to Greenstone last week. He visited Beardmore, Geraldton, Nakina and Longlac.
“The issues raised by constituents have become all too familiar as I knock on doors across this large riding. The economy and lack of good paying jobs was voiced once again in Nakina. While wages have stagnated, the cost of living has gone through the roof. Seniors and others on fixed income struggle to pay ever-increasing bills for fuel, electricity and utilities” said Foulds. “How long can this continue?”
Resource based industry, or the lack of it, is on most peoples’ minds.
Infrastructure renewal is needed, especially in the area of roads and telecommunications. One example; Nakina suffers from a lack of consistent cell coverage. This seriously impacts people on several levels; it affects day-to-day lives, it discourages business and tourism growth and challenges emergency services providers.
“This is the 21st century; communities rely on tele-communications for emergency services and business. It is extremely difficult for new businesses to start up without adequate cell service.”
The NDP Plan:
- boost the guaranteed income supplement and expand the CPP
- protect workers’ pensions when companies go bankrupt
- ensure that vital infrastructure is there when people need it
- ensure stable long term investment in core infrastructure
“I am proud that Tom Mulcair and the NDP have a municipal infrastructure strategy that will provide infrastructure funding to municipalities for long term economic prosperity. Seniors have built our communities. The NDP recognizes that CPP is inadequate and is committed to increasing pensions for them” added Foulds.
