As of July 5, there are currently nine active forest fires in the region. A majority of active forest fires are currently being observed or under control in the far north, with the exception of two new fires north of Sudbury. Sudbury 25 is being held at 0.1 hectares, and Sudbury 26 is not under control at 0.1 hectares.

Fire Hazard

The region is experiencing a low to high hazard, with areas experiencing greatest hazard concentrated around James Bay, Ottawa and Sault Ste. Marie.

Out of Province

Ontario continues to aid other provinces and territories in firefighting efforts, and has deployed personnel and resources to Alberta, the Northwest Territories, Saskatchewan, the Yukon, as well as in support of Parks Canada. Currently there are 219 personnel deployed outside of Ontario, along with aircraft, pumps and hose equipment.

The Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services program is reminding people that they are responsible for safe outdoor fire management and must follow guidelines set out in the Forest Fires Prevention Act of Ontario including no day burning of brush or grass fires. Campfires are to be tended at all times and put out before leaving.
