Manitouwadge Museum Welcome Mat Unrolls

Population 2200! Have you been in to see the Manitouwadge Museum’s collection of local historical items (including mining and forestry industry artifacts) articles and photos gathered, over 20 years, by volunteers wanting to share our community’s history with neighbours and visitors?
We regret we were unable to have had ‘The Geco Story’ reprinted for our 50th Anniversary in 2004 but you can see a copy at Manitouwadge Public Library or the Museum. I am always checking Yard Sales hoping to find a copy to share. We received a very significant Scrap Book from Reino Viittala, Thunder Bay in 2014 which we have now had copied for safe protection. He had worked for Willroy or Geco Mines and had newspaper clippings some of which we had never seen regarding the staking and beginnings of our community. We also have the only one-of-their-kind plates showing both the Mines which the late Alma Smith had found at a yard sale in Southern Ontario and is on loan to us from daughter Janet Turner. We appreciate so very much the many items shared.
We are now open Monday to Friday 1 – 3 p.m. until the Summer Student is hired in July at which time the museum will be opened weekends, closed Mondays and Tuesdays admission is $2 (members visit free – see membership info below).
