Enforcement Blitz Finds Most Anglers Obeying Rules
Most anglers checked during a two-day fisheries enforcement blitz near Thunder Bay were in compliance with Ontario’s fishing regulations. Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry conservation officers, including the canine unit, checked anglers at the Pigeon River International Bridge on June 6, 2015, and along Highway 527 on June 7, 2015. Officers were checking for compliance with fishing regulations. The officers checked 603 individuals, including 424 non-residents of Canada, during the blitz.
They laid 14 charges for offences including:
- having an over-limit of fish
- having unlawfully packaged fish that could not readily be counted or identified
They issued 44 warnings for offences including:
- fishing without a valid licence
- having unlawfully packaged fish that could not readily be counted or identified
- transporting live fish
The ministry reminds the public that conservation officers conduct routine checks to ensure anglers are obeying resource and safety laws.
