Bluewave Energy – Delivering Much More than Fuel
THUNDER BAY, ON– Sitting down with Trevor Mikus, Branch Manager at Bluewave Energy in Thunder Bay, I ask ‘What’s so special about Bluewave?’ He answers unequivocally, “It’s the people and the leadership. When I brought forward the proposal to our senior leadership team to make a $10,000 gift to the Exceptional Cancer Care Campaign, I had an answer within minutes – and it was a yes!”
Mikus and his team in Thunder Bay took time out of their busy schedules this past April to come together and celebrate the impact of their gift to the cancer program. “We feel very strongly about coming together as a community to do great things,” said Mikus. “Even though our company has a national footprint, we have this small-town feeling, and it’s important to us to take care of our customers and neighbours where we have operations.”
“Virtually everybody has been affected by cancer at one point or another in their lives, whether they themselves have had cancer, or know someone else who has ” said Caryla Lutz, Marketing Specialist, Parkland Fuel Corporation, owners of Bluewave Energy. “At Bluewave, we empower all our employees to participate in our Charitable Giving Program. They choose where our donations go, proudly giving back to the communities in which they live and work. In this instance, employees chose to support cancer care.”
With a base in Thunder Bay, the Bluewave Energy team distributes fuel, propane and lubricants to homes and businesses within the city and also in Schreiber. Mikus himself is from Terrace Bay, but moved to Thunder Bay in 2001. “The fact that cancer care is accessible across the region is very encouraging,” he says. “I still have family and friends living outside of Thunder Bay and I’m happy to know that they will receive the same exceptional care at home, as we are privileged to receive here.”
One particular area that peaked the interest of Mikus and his team was the new Cyclotron that was recently installed in Thunder Bay. “That is just a fantastic resource,” he commented. “I mean, for a city of our size to have a piece of equipment like that, well, it’s just, it’s the right step forward.”
Mikus followed up with, “I have a family member going through cancer right now, and for me, for him, the best thing is, the comfort is here. That’s what our team is providing with this gift – exceptional, close-to-home care – that’s as comforting as you can get.”
