Province Supporting Communities and Creating Jobs

Ontario is supporting festivals and events in Thunder Bay & Schreiber that will draw tourists, create jobs and grow the local economy.

“Our government is proud to support festivals and events because they contribute to the economy and create jobs right here in our region.  The Celebrate Ontario program puts the spotlight on our region, highlighting our traditions for residents and tourists to enjoy and discover.” MPP Michael Gravelle, Thunder Bay – Superior North

Through the Celebrate Ontario 2015 program, the province is helping three festivals and events in Thunder Bay & Schreiber that celebrate the region’s diversity, heritage and culture, while also enhancing visitor experiences and increasing attendance.

Local festivals and events receiving support include:

  • 6th Annual Festival of India                  $ 22,342
  • Schreiber Heritage Days 2015     $ 18,405
  • Staal Foundation Open 2015                $ 87,120

Helping local festivals and events grow and prosper supports the government’s economic plan for Ontario. The four-part plan is building Ontario up by investing in people’s talents and skills, building new public infrastructure like roads and transit, creating a dynamic, supportive environment where business thrives and building a secure savings plan so everyone can afford to retire.

“Ontario is home to so many special festivals and events and I’m proud that our government has committed to investing in a record number of them across the province through the Celebrate Ontario 2015 program. Our investment will help these festivals and events reach new heights as they create jobs, build local economies and offer new and exciting ways for residents and visitors to experience Ontario like never before.” Michael Coteau, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport
