MCAG Looks Back At $160K+ Donations!
The Manitouwadge Cancer Assistance Group was formed in April, 2007 by a group of individuals whose lives had been touched by cancer in various ways. This caring group felt there was a need to help others in our community that were facing the challenges of a cancer diagnosis. Never in their wildest dreams did this small group imagine they would be blessed with the support of our community in such a huge way and have the ability to help others to the extent we have.
As the years passed, the group grew to the 9 executive member volunteers that form the Manitouwadge Cancer Assistance Group at present. Once a month the executive meets to discuss future fundraisers and bring forward new ideas. We have in place a Constitution and By-Laws, which guide our decision making.
In 2013, our group was honoured to be nominated and receive The June Callwood Outstanding Achievement Award for Voluntarism. Presented by the Minister of Culture & Tourism, this was a humbling experience for us to be part of.
Our Mission is to raise funds so that we can continue to provide assistance to Manitouwadge cancer patients receiving treatment / or professional supportive care. When patients have exhausted all funding options such as Canadian Cancer society, Northern Travel Grant, or their personal or employer health plans, Government agencies such as Ontario Works / Disability our organization can supply some aid when funds permit.
Our fundraising and donations allow us to assist cancer patients with expenses such as prosthesis, prescription medications (when not covered by drug plans), oxygen, travel and accommodations while attending appointments or treatments.
Since 2007, thanks to the generosity of our community, many donors and volunteers that are always there to help us, we have raised over $161,251 which has allowed us to fulfilled 263 requests for assistance to date.
